Brace yourself, job opportunities are coming in big tech.
Summer is almost over, which means one of the best periods to apply for a job will be here soon. While June, July and August are often slow (slow responses, not a lot of opportunities), September and October tend to be golden months to apply for a new job, especially in tech companies.

The best months to apply for a new job
When people take more gym memberships, it’s usually a good time to apply for jobs. No, there is no correlation or causality between job openings and gym memberships, but in general the best months to apply for a job are: January, February, September and October.
It’s not really a coincidence these overlap with the peak sales months of gym memberships. People tend to take gym memberships after holiday periods to lose weight gains.
In the corporate world, returning to office after time-off often means: picking up slack of the past months, faster response times and more employee movements. People tend to wait until after time-off to switch jobs as they don’t want to lose their paid-time off they accumulated during the year. This means new job opportunities will open.
New year, new me, new job opportunities
Next to this, there are two big moments in a year for change:
January and February are obviously the start of a new calendar year, hence people had time to rethink their life during the Christmas break, set new resolutions and start working on these.
Companies on the other hand are experiencing more people leaving, but they also have new budgets available and new targets set: this creates more flexibility and new roles opening up in order to obtain these targets.
September and October are similar to January and February. It’s often the start of a new ‘School Year’ or ‘Working Year’. Summer holidays are over and people start thinking about alternatives to improve their life.
Corporates are entering the acceleration of the second-half of the year, new budgets are approved and also new growth targets are set.
When should I prepare for new job opportunities in these months?
While the most opportunities come online in these months, it’s absolutely crucial to be completely prepared for when they pop online. If you still have to start your pre-work, resume, LinkedIn and interview preparation, you will be simply too late to take advantage of the acceleration in September and October.
The best months to prepare are the one or two months before the peak of open job opportunities
